The Don Bosco Technical College–Cebu (DBTC) held a meaningful Parents’ Formation over the weekend, centering on the theme “Mental Health of Parents: Accompanying Our Sons in the Age of Social Media.” The formation was organized by the BED Guidance and Assessment Office as part of the school’s Family Ministry Program, which aims to strengthen the role of parents as partners in the holistic formation of their sons.

The activity gathered parents from Grades 7 to 9, spread across two days. On Saturday, September 6, 2025, parents of Grade 7 students attended the morning session at 8:00 a.m., followed by Grade 8 parents in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Grade 9 parents participated on Sunday morning, September 7, 2025, at 8:00 a.m.

The sessions featured two invited guest speakers: Ms. Joji Racelis and Mr. Marlon Ardiente, who both shared insights on how social media influences the mental health of both young people and their parents. Their talks highlighted the importance of balance, communication, and setting healthy digital boundaries within the family.

As one of the pillars of the Family Ministry Program, the Parents’ Formation provided a venue for parents to reflect on their crucial role in guiding their sons, especially in the fast-changing digital world. The interactive sessions also equipped families with practical tools to foster resilience, empathy, and meaningful relationships at home.

One parent participant shared,

“This formation reminded me that I should not just monitor my son’s online activities, but also accompany him with understanding and presence. It gave me hope that we can handle these challenges as a family.”

Through initiatives like this, DBTC continues its mission of accompanying families in their shared responsibility of raising good Christians and upright citizens in the spirit of Don Bosco.
